AC servicing is one of those bills that looks simple on paper but hides a lot of variance. A regular service can cost ₹400 from an independent technician or ₹900 from a big brand — for the same work. Here's what the prices actually look like in 2026, based on verified quotes across 40 Indian cities.
Standard AC service rates
| Service | Independent (₹) | Brand / Big Platform (₹) |
|---|---|---|
| Regular service (split AC) | 400 – 700 | 700 – 1,200 |
| Regular service (window AC) | 300 – 600 | 500 – 900 |
| Gas refill (R-32 / R-410) | 1,500 – 3,000 | 2,500 – 4,500 |
| Installation (split) | 1,500 – 2,500 | 2,500 – 3,800 |
| Uninstallation + reinstall | 2,500 – 4,500 | 3,800 – 6,500 |
| Deep chemical wash | 900 – 1,500 | 1,300 – 2,200 |
When the "cheap" service becomes expensive
Independent technicians usually quote lower but may skip things like coil cleaning or refrigerant level checks. If you're paying ₹400 for a "service", ask specifically: filter clean, coil clean, drain line check, gas pressure check, electrical terminal tightening. If the tech answers "yes" to all five and takes at least 45 minutes on-site, the rate is fair. If they're done in 15 minutes, they only cleaned the filter.
Warranty catches to know
- If your AC is under manufacturer warranty, using a third-party technician for anything involving the compressor, PCB or sealed system usually voids it. Regular service (external cleaning) does not.
- Brand-authorised service ("Voltas Care", "Daikin Service") is more expensive but keeps warranty valid.
- After warranty expiry (usually 1–5 years depending on the brand), independent technicians are almost always cheaper and just as good for routine work.
When to repair vs replace
A rough rule: if the repair estimate is more than 40% of a new unit's price AND your AC is more than 8 years old, replace. Modern inverter ACs use 30–40% less power than older fixed-speed models — the electricity savings alone pay back the upgrade in 2–3 summers.
