Letting a stranger into your home to fix a tap or wire a switchboard is a small act of trust that most people do without thinking. Here is a 5-minute routine you can run every time, that catches 95% of problems before they start.

## Before you book

1. Look for a verification badge on the profile (phone, ID, or address verified).
2. Read the 3 most recent reviews. Filter out 5-star one-liners and 1-star revenge reviews — look for 3-4 star reviews with specific feedback.
3. Check experience years. Under 2 years is fine for simple jobs but not for anything concealed (behind walls, panel work).
4. Match the skill to the job. A "plumber" who lists 15 unrelated skills is usually a generalist, not an expert.

## When the worker arrives

- Ask to see an ID (Aadhaar, driving licence). Check the name matches the profile.
- Confirm the scope before any work starts. Repeat what was agreed on the phone.
- Look at the tools. A worker with no tools except a screwdriver isn't who they claim to be.
- Keep one family member visible for the duration. Not paranoia — standard practice.

## Emergency numbers (India)

- Police: 100
- Women's Helpline: 1091
- National Emergency: 112
- Cyber-crime / fraud: 1930

## If something goes wrong

On Solve24, every worker profile has a "Report" option. We investigate within 48 hours and remove flagged workers. If the incident is serious (theft, assault), file a police complaint first — a platform report alone is not a substitute for a FIR.
